My departure has resulted in a major absence of project movement and even a loss of a few other members. Most content that has been created for the project has been retracted by lost members. There never was a lot of content to begin with though. Most of the project has been a drag and heavily depended on a couple vigorous members to keep the project at least crawling.
The project isn't entirely dead, just in cryo-stasis, waiting for a new leader/team manager to come in and get things heated up. If there's anyone out there with leadership skills, a decent understanding of what's required to make a Portal 2 mod, and the time to manage team members, you can contact me at crontihus@gmail.com. You probably won't get a response with the THWiP email. Right now this project can't accept anything but a new leader right now. If you're up to it, expect to partially flush the forums and start with a little amount of content, along with truncating the team and building it up again with dedicated members.
I wish I could but I cant. I am glad though to hear that the project is in cryo rather than being "dead" though.
ReplyDeleteGiven all the recent takedowns, I suggest you lay low once you do find someone.
ReplyDeleteThirded. Also a note to anyone who picks up this project: I will continue to update the Map of Ponyville as I've always done, and provide any tactical data, analysis, and research as needed. However, the chances of my being able to contribute anything physical to the project beyond these topics are even more minimal than before... Huzzah for high level academia.
ReplyDeleteFourthed. I'd pick up the project, but I don't have much of an understanding on Portal 2 mods in general. I've been working a bit on some props, but that's all I can do. :I
ReplyDeleteHave you considered contacting the SFM Ponyville people?
ReplyDeleteAnother pony project where people bit off way more than they could chew, and quit before even a test release. What a surprise.
ReplyDeleteWatch the sass, Captain Sassypants. Personally, I'd be all for getting back into this project, especially since I've learned a lot more about modelling stuff since the last work I did for it, but I have no idea about how busy the other guys are, and I'm not the type to bother them about something like that.
DeleteDang... Has it really been two years since we last worked on this? That would be about... halfway through season 2... Ouch. Random Anon, your concern has been noted and accepted as fact-ish. However, I would like to point out two things: 1) There was a test release, but it was rather small (due to it being a test) and was only distributed to members of the dev team. 2) The sub-project of mapping Ponyville as accurately as possible (with the original intent of modeling / recreating it in 3D for Source) has not only continued but has improved massively compared to where it was at the end of Season 1. At this point in time, all maps ( http://aurek-skyclimber.deviantart.com/art/Map-of-Ponyville-Labeled-v3-2-215925777 ), collections of reference images ( http://aurek-skyclimber.deviantart.com/gallery/40545119 ), and photo guides - both exterior ( http://aurek-skyclimber.deviantart.com/gallery/41506680 ) and interior ( http://aurek-skyclimber.deviantart.com/gallery/34391411 ) - are up to date with regards to the end of Season 3, and will be updated intermittently as additional information is discovered from episodes new and old.
DeleteVFX Kid! Long time no write! As stated above, I'm going to continue to update the Ponyville map as long as they continue to put out new seasons (which means I've got another two to go at the very least ^^ ). However, I would absolutely love to see the project brought to life in the 3D realm! Seeing as we're both still 'active'-ish and interested in seeing the project continue, how about we discuss things at some point coming up over Steam chat? Perhaps first as a smaller project that's just about Ponyville for Source (and therefore for SFM / TF2 / Gmod / VR), and then possibly onwards from there? (And to clarify about your concerns above, I'm busier than ever at this point, but I could see clear to making time to work on this.)
Yeah, it sure has been a while! I had no idea you were still continuing with the map project. You, sir, are dedicated. I'd definitely be up for going over things in Steam at some point. Getting to work on Ponyville would definitely be a good project for anyone who wants to get involved. Now, I am in college now, so my workload is a bit heavier than before. However, if I knuckle down and work harder than I have on getting my schoolwork done, I feel like I'll definitely be able to contribute.
DeleteI don't know why I bothered to keep checking on this place for so long, but just for this little bit of activity, I'm glad I did. ^^

If you spot any glaring errors, let me know and I'll do my best to fix them. Haven't had a chance to test this in Source yet, so feel free to stress test. Also, the model is for general purpose use, no restrictions. Share, use, modify, produce awesome SFM movies, etc. Have fun!
Man, I wish this happened seemed like a cool idea.
